Several national activists who have been detained in Tehran's Evin prison for more than four months have launched a hunger strike.

Human rights activists reported this, citing sources inside the prison.

A group of three prisoners, including Tahir Naqavi and Huseyn Piri, began a hunger strike in protest of their detention in uncertain conditions, as well as the Ministry of Security's and the court's illegal actions.

The prisoners claim that they disagree with the accusations leveled against them and demand that court proceedings be held in public. They threatened to launch a dry hunger strike if their demands were not met.

Other national prisoners are expected to go on hunger strike if their demands are not met and court hearings are not held openly.

It should be noted that activists detained by security officers on February 5 and 6 are not permitted to be temporarily released on bail and provided with legal representation.
